Almost 130 million travelers passed through six of Thailand’s main airports during fiscal 2017 (the fiscal year for 2017 was Oct. 1, 2016, to Sept. 30, 2017).

A full 129.2 million people traversed six airports operated by Airports of Thailand (AoT) during that period, which is a 7.73 percent increase from the previous year, according to AoT president Nitinai Sirisamatthakarn.

The six airports included in the data are Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, and Chiang Rai, reported Thai PBS.

The AoT airports served approximately 2,250 flights daily for a total of 823,574 flights over the fiscal year. To break those numbers down further, 415,338 of those were international flights while 408,236 were domestic.

Approximately 72.54 million passengers were non-Thai, and 56.66 million were domestic travelers.

As far as the origin of the international travelers flying into and out of the airports, most of them were from China, South Korea, Japan, India, and Malaysia, in that order.

The five airlines handling most of the traffic through the airports were AirAsia, Thai Airways, Thai Lion Air, NokAir, and Bangkok Airways, also in that order.

Despite the high traffic in these airports, of perhaps because of it, the Bangkok hubs of Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang often face ridicule and complaints for long lines and inefficient processing in immigration. The government has announced plans to fix these issues.
