Touted as Bangkok’s first upcycling market, the new Model Market takes over an outdoor space in Thonglor and fills it with funky beats, good grub, art installations, and more.

A concept by Fenix Food World, helmed by Johan Persimon Davidsson (the one behind Hotel Muse Langsuan, Maggie Choo’s, and Iron Fairies), Model Market aims to convert abandoned urban venues like carparks and warehouses into social spaces to attract the crowds.

Decked out in fairy lights that twinkle against graffiti walls, the rustic spot is furnished with upcycled tables and chairs in a communal dining area for visitors to sit and chill. Bites and booze come courtesy of food trucks and pop-ups by well-known names like Fat Boy Smokehouse, Peppina, Tropic City, The Iron Fairies, Nitro Labs, Whisky Garden by Jameson, and Siam Winery. To provide the beats, DJs helm the decks on weekdays, while local and international musicians take the stage on weekends.

Once you’ve got those hunger pangs satiated, you can browse through upcycled leather goods like jackets, bags, and shoes from Thai brand The ReMaker, which will host weekly workshops and installations to inspire visitors to go green. Plus, if you’ve got pre-loved clothes, books, or toys lying around that don’t spark joy in you, you can donate them to the local recycling initiatives at the market or haul them in for a clothes swap.

Just don’t bring your plastic straws or utensils with you — the venue’s firm about doing its best to care for the Earth with biodegradable items.
