Saladaeng is booming, y’all.

Popular Thonglor food hub and hangout The Commons will try to repeat its magic in the Silom area with a new location on Soi Saladaeng Soi 1.

Already home to indie cinema Bangkok Screening Room, hip brunch spot Bitterman and carnivore heaven The Meatchop Butcher & Spirits, the neighborhood will welcome the community mall’s second edition called, to no great surprise, The Commons Saladaeng.

Slated to open on Jan. 16, the three-story mall will feature more than 20 cafes, bars and restaurants as well as the original’s signature outdoor area for public chilling.

While it will see some of the same vendors from The Commons Thonglor — such as all-day eatery Roast, specialty coffee cafe Roots and craft ice-cream parlor Guss Damn Good — Saladaeng folks can expect Draft Land, a Taiwanese “cocktails on tap” import, and savor homemade burgers by Bun, Meat & Cheese operated by the same meatgeek behind Homeburg

Much as the original won plaudits for its open design, architecture enthusiasts will appreciate The Commons new outpost for its towering pavilion-style red roofs – a nod to the literal translation of sala daeng (red pavilion). It’s also the brainchild of the Department of Architecture Co., the same firm behind the original; Chulalongkorn University’s Architecture Library, and the Thailand Creative and Design Center, or TCDC.
