Eight films curated by eight cinemas from cities around the world will screen at an indie cinema in the Silom area starting Friday.

Aiming to bring together the world’s diverse cinema cultures, Doc Club & Pub’s Cinema of Commoning will show eight films from across the continents in its seven-day run.

The eight participating cinemas are Sinema Transtopia (Berlin), Cine CCC (Santiago, Chile), Cinema Akil (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), Kundura Sinema (Istanbul, Turkey), Cinema Arta (Cluj-Napoca, Romania), Forum Lenteng (Jakarta), Cinema Geracao (Luanda, Angola), and Doc Club & Pub (Bangkok).

Some of the highlights include The Emperor’s Naked Army Marches On, chosen by the venue host itself. The documentary follows a 62-year-old WWII veteran of Japan’s campaign in New Guinea searching those responsible for the unexplained deaths of two soldiers in his old unit.

Remake, Remix, Rip-off is a documentary about the Turkey Fantastic Cinema industry – where filmmakers ditch copyright issues to blatantly create cheap remakes from copied scripts – that boomed in the 1960s and ‘70s.

Essayistic documentary Majub’s Journey tells the story of Mohamed Husen, an African man who worked as an extra in the movie industry in Nazi Germany during the 1930s. Whenever a black man was needed on the screen, Husen always played the part.
