Do you hear the people sing? Singing the songs of Angry Men? You will soon because Grand Opera Thailand is set to bring down the house with the classic Les Misérables. The world-class performance will take place high above the glittering Bangkok skyline on the 60th floor of Banyan Tree at Vertigo Too Lounge on July 12, 2017. Between the unique setting and iconic music, it’s a night of entertainment that can’t be missed.
Les Misérables, which is a French historical novel by Victor Hugo, was first published in 1862 and is considered one of the greatest novels of the 19th century. The events on Les Misérables date back to the beginning of 1815 and the events that led up to the “June Rebellion” or the Paris Uprising of 1832. Enough with the history lesson, though, and straight to the spoilers.
After 19 years as a prisoner, Jean Valjean is freed by Javert (the officer in charge of the prison). However, Valjean breaks his parole but later uses money that he stole to reinvent himself as a mayor and factory owner. With Valjean breaking his parole, Javert vows to bring Valjean back to prison. Eight years later, Valjean becomes the guardian of a child named Cosette after her mother passes away. Javert’s persistent pursuit means that peace will be a long time coming. It’s an enigmatic tale that has been engrossing theatre-goers for decades, and now here’s your chance!
Grand Opera Thailand was founded in 2011 by internationally-renowned opera singer Stefan Paul Sanchez. Since then, the organization has entertained crowds and filled venues all over Asia. The group will be performing five other shows at Vertigo Too Lounge including Chicago, Phantom of the Opera, La Traviata, Pop-Opera featuring “Boogie Woogie” Boys & Girls, and an International Tribute to Valentine’s Day as the last show of the series.
