The only thing that would help get cat-crazed Bangkokians even more excited about a cat documentary screening has got to be a cat photo contest.
To celebrate the screening of Kedi, a Turkish cat documentary, organizer Documentary Club has called for people to submit the best cat picture they’ve ever taken in a popular vote contest. The ten winners will be rewarded with tickets to the Bangkok premiere of Kedi at CentralWorld.
Set in Istanbul, Kedi (Turkish word for cat) depicts seven of the thousands of stray cats roaming free in the Turkey’s largest city. For centuries, cats have been a beloved part of Istanbul life and wandered in and out of people’s lives in that city.
Director Ceyda Torun, who grew up in Istanbul in the early 80s, noticed that the city has changed over the years, except for the street cats, which she said “embody the city’s soul.”
“I grew up in Istanbul until I was eleven years old and I believe my childhood was infinitely less lonesome than it would have been if it weren’t for cats. And I wouldn’t be the person I am today,” Torun said in the statement.
“This film is, in many ways, a love letter to those cats and the city.”
Hosted by Documentary Club, the film will premiere in Bangkok on June 5, followed by a nightly screening from June 8-14 at SF World.
Cat lovers are encouraged to participate in the “Cats in Town” contest and win a pair of free tickets. Note that photos of your own cats are not welcomed.
Here are some of the photos submitted to the contest. You still have one more day to submit your own photo. You can do that here.
