Bukruk Urban Arts kicks off with live music at Jam Factory

The Bukruk Urban Arts festival kicked off on Saturday with a day of live music, food and fashion at Jam Factory, attracting a big crowd of festival enthusiasts.

The return of the 10-day open air arts festival began with a separate music festival at Jam Factory after the last-minute cancellation by its original venue, Bangkok Docklands. Despite the small space, enterprising event organisers managed to set up two stages for 18 bands, along with food and fashion stops.

As the event set out to promote cultural ties between Europe and Asia, Thailand was represented through music, with familiar crowd pleasers such as Yellow Fang and the morlum crew Paradise Bangkok International Band.

Meanwhile, another musical hit was Burmese rock band Side Effect, who got the crowd at the main stage head-banging just when it started to get dark, while Japanese-Belgian duo “Alek et Les Japonaises” also brought their unique “electropical” tunes.

Following the music fest, the wall arts have taken over until Sunday. Thirteen artists are showcasing their works on different walls in Bang Rak district, all within walking distance. From tomorrow until Saturday, twelve more artists will hold their exhibitions at popular venues along the Chao Phraya river, including Soy Sauce Factory, Speedy Grandma and Shangri La Hotel.

The first Bukruk Animation Night at Jam Factory will screen 16 selected short films on Saturday, while artist talks at TCDC on Sunday will wrap up the festival.
