Two major Bangkok roads meet at Ladprao intersection: Pahon Yothin and Ladprao. It’s also the site of Chatuchak, the weekend shopping mecca where tourists, locals and everyone in between meets to mingle, eat, drink and shop. So why isn’t Ladprao getting the attention it deserves as the lifestyle hub of North Bangkok? Well, we think that’s about to change. This underrated neighborhood encapsulates Bangkok’s bustling urban excitement and still manages to offer relaxing suburban greenery. There are so many things to love about this location. Here are a few.

It connects the city to all of North Bangkok

First, let’s talk connectivity. Ladprao intersection is right up there with Ratchaprasong and Asoke in terms of iconic city hubs, and it is just as accessible. MRT Pahon Yothin, easy highway access and several bus routes provide access to the junction The BTS Green Line is being built and will soon provide a connection between the BTS and MRT. Ladprao intersection is close to Don Muang Airport, and an easy drive on the highway to Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The intersection is lively and diverse, with plenty of greenery.

The type of people that live in Ladprao come from all walks of life; born and bred Bangkokians, people from all over the country, international expats, tourists and travelers all call this area home. There are many big office buildings and notable companies located here. But amongst the hustle and bustle there’s no shortage of greenery. Take a stroll through Chatuchak Park or bring a blanket and relax at the more secluded Vachirabenjatas Park, affectionately referred to as Rot Fai Park. Both places are a favorite hangout for local Ladprao-ers.

Shopping, shopping, and more shopping.

Central Ladprao has been attracting shoppers from all over the city for decades. Modernized and renovated, it is home to big name brands and interesting boutiques like Carnival where sneakerheads shop for rare pairs. Major Ratchayothin isn’t far behind with a stylish mix of boutiques, cafes and restaurants like Greyhound Cafe.

It goes without saying that Chatuchak is one of the main attractions in the neighborhood. Together with JJ Mall and Union Mall (bargain hunter’s favorites) and JJ Green ( vintage lovers’ favorite) this area is truly a shopping paradise. Thai Airways Market, also known as Talad Loong Perm, is another shopping haven for designer goods, fashion and accessories, great local food, snacks and more. There’s an abundance of things you can buy. You’ll never want to leave!

No compromises on local street food

Speaking of food. Ladprao is basically the hub of delicious local Thai food. Or Tor Kor market near Chatuchak is one of the best places to buy fresh ingredients and ready to eat food like guay tiew and moo ping. Other local gems include Tee Ped Pakking, an old Peking duck stall under the Central Ladprao overpass. Not far from that is Thanon Chokchai 4 where you can find tons of delicious street food. Try Lao Kui Bahmee Assawin, a delicious noodle stall with a tuk-tuk facade that you can’t miss, or Sawang Arun Beef Noodle, a nicely decorated old shop.

Awesome cafes and restaurants still feel like neighborhood hangouts

Ladprao has some amazing, old, authentic Thai street food stalls, but international cuisine doesn’t disappoint either. Passionate people are opening up new and exciting places all over Ladprao. Bluekoff in Ladprao Soi 3 specializes in single origin coffee, roasted, brewed and poured on premises. They even provide courses on mastering the art of the bean.

Seven Cafe and Good Space co-working space in Soi Phahon Yothin 18/1 offer coffee, snacks, healthy desserts and fresh baked goodies. For something a bit more indulgent, try The Fat Cow in Ladprao Soi 15, where American style juicy burgers and steaks are served alongside Thai craft beers.

Want to experience all that this neighborhood has to offer? Sure, you could take the MRT to Ladprao for a day and you definitely wouldn’t be disappointed. But wouldn’t it be great to live here and have all of this greatness right on your doorstep?
