8 Reasons to eat, pray, love … and shop at the redesigned one-stop Central Food Hall at CentralWorld

Think of your favorite food store in Bangkok, or even Thailand. Now, picture that with wide aisles you can easily push your shopping carts without the need to squeeze by a fellow shopper, tons of grocery selections that you basically are not sure if you have the storage room for them, and a food hall that that throws away your perspective of menus you can choose for lunch, dinner, or takeaways.

Yes, discerning readers, we are taking you with us on a virtual tour to the redesigned Central Food Hall through our lens.

As you’re aware that it’s situated on the 7th floor of CentralWorld, take the escalator up and enter Central Food Hall — well, technically you can enter through the left via food takeaway zone or the Food Hall entry.

Let’s dive into why we fell in love with this new-look world-class food store.

1. New rustic-ish design

Borrowing the overall appearance of the UK’s Borough Market, the steel frame provides an industrial-look backbone to the renovated food store. If this isn’t a breath of fresh air, tell us which other place in Bangkok is.

2. Durian guru

Love it or hate it (but we were banking on you loving it) durians have their niche cult following to the point malls have durian buffets. Never leave your golden custardy fruit up to fate of a tapping stick to decide whether it’s premature or overripe — thanks to Central Food Hall’s team of certified ‘Khun Durians’ who know how to slice and dice, and give you the perfect texture of durian to your preference.

3. For the love of wine

There’s no need for wine drinkers to seek their favorite label in a dungeon-like wine cellar that houses tons of bottles in subpar environment. Instead, you can head to Central Food Hall’s, and choose from over 1000 wine labels from an inner chamber that holds a range of fine selection in a temperature-controlled setting.

4. A food galore for Bangkokians

Hunger is not feeling you’d associate with after leaving this place. Let’s be honest, how fussy can you be to not pick from any food vendors here? From Bangkok’s comfort-food (surely meatloaf, and mac and cheese count as comfort food) bistro to bars that roll out freshly sliced sashimi, ‘surf and turf’ steak from the butchery and seafood from its Ocean Bar, a food galore can be expected at the revamped Central Food Hall.

The list goes on and on which is why you have to experience yourself. Plus, the good thing here is you can cross-order between each diner which throws the issue of eating from a singular menu out the window.

5. Cheese overload

600. That’s the estimate of how many cheese varieties and products Central Food Hall has in store. You can blame them for feeling full before your dinner date if you happen to have too many of their cheese samples.

6. A taste of Italy

What reminds you of Italian cuisine? For some, pizza is up there, or quality olive oil, but we’d like to think it’s pasta. It’s not often you get to buy freshly-made pasta off of a kitchen counter, but at Central Food Hall, you finally can.

7. Get your shots, coffeehead

Most of you can’t function properly without a dose of hot roasted coffee (or cold, since it’s already boiling in Bangkok). There’s a coffee spot at Peter’s Coffee to enjoy a cup of coffee that’s just right for your caffeine level. If you’re lucky, you’ll meet the Finnish owner-coffee expert Peter Weckström who can recommend the perfect beans to make your day.

Or you can opt for a quick grab-and-go frappucino (and so much more) at Segrafredo — right at the entrance of Central Food Hall.

8. Straight out the oven

That’s an unexplainable obsession for pastries and baked goods when they come immediately out of the oven. The heavenly aroma of baked cinnamon rolls, thanks to its Austrian head chef, along with other bread varieties are worth entering the food store for. However, the real proof isn’t in the pudding, but in their Bavarian-grain dough.

In all honesty, our reasons to visit the redesigned Central Food Hall can reach 20 but that may just be an information overload for you. You know what to do, right? Just head over to the 7th floor of CentralWorld and experience it for yourself.
