Four Asian women busting up the craft cocktail boy’s club will journey to Bangkok to make some kick-ass concoctions.
Debuting last year to celebrate the culture of gin, the Bangkok Gin Fest returns next month to take over five Bangkok bars — one in the Silom area and four others in Chinatown — and features female bartenders from Taiwan, the Philippines and South Korea.
The festival will start in broad daylight at 1pm on Nov. 9 at Baan Silom, with stalls offering more than 100 brands of gin and tonic.
In the evening, head over to Chinatown to savor the highlight: Four bars in Soi Nana welcoming the four special guest bartenders.
From 8pm onward, Teens of Thailand will have Leila Lee from Taipei’s Placebo bar. Known for experimenting with tea and mixing her drinks with several Asian herbs, Lee will create Roku gin cocktails for the night.
At Asia Today, Grace Tsai from one of Taipei’s most prolific bars, Indulge Bistro, will create Star of Bombay gin cocktails.
Tep Bar will have South Korean mixologist June Baek womanning the bar and serving a Caorunn drink while, steps away at Chinese-themed corner bar Ba Hao, Manila-based Audrey Gustilo will be pouring Hendrick’s gin.
Tickets for each day are THB200 including one free gin drink. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own glasses to help reduce plastic waste.
The Bangkok Gin Fest runs Nov. 9 and Nov. 10.
