Songkran And Chill: Thai street food, dope art installations, and more at Siam Summer Getaway

PRESENTED BY

We have the answer to that age-old dilemma, “hmmm, where can everyone in my family enjoy Songkran together?”. Grab your waterproof bag and hop on the BTS, we’re taking you to the hippest hood of Bangkok. That’s right, we’re heading to Siam! This Apr. 12-16, enjoy delectable bites and insta-worthy spots all in one area. What does Siam Summer Getaway have in store for you, you ask? Here’s a glimpse!

Get off the BTS at Siam, turn left, follow the heavenly smell of food and you’ll find it, Songkran Food Fest: Taste of Thai Tradition event. Make sure you have plenty of room to try everything. Start with pork ball skewers Look Chin Prang Nara with a secret recipe dipping sauce, or go for the juicy grilled beef and chicken from Bang Meen, before trying sago dumplings from the three generation-old restaurant, Mae Kii Sakhu Sai Mu, then sample the savory fried pork from Chao Wang Wang Lang. Your choice, go!

Continue this yummy journey with an ancient menu item, khao chae from Khao Chae Petchburi Nang Loeng Market and breathe in the aroma of ylang ylang. Paired with sweet side dishes, it will definitely cool you off in the intense April heat. There’s an old Thai idiom that we’re happy to follow: always finish your meal with a dessert. We highly recommend the colorful traditional Thai desserts from Baanchaowang. There’s also an area for you to sprinkle water onto a Buddha image for good luck in the traditional way.

Time to take a break and hide from the sun. Head into Siam Center, and let yourself gravitate towards the vibrant neon lights from the Summer Journey Exhibition. (You can’t miss it!) Walk into the colorful maze and you’ll find plenty of picture-perfect spots to spruce up the old IG grid. Take a few snaps at Vibrant Desert with cute colorful cactus, the Pop Pool, the sparkly Dazzling Island that feels like outer space, and the Sweet Florida filled with pink flamingos. Flamingos are definitely the IG prop of the moment, amiright?

Don’t you think for a second that the food journey has ended. Once you get out of Siam Center, but before entering Siam Discovery, make a stop at the area between the two malls. Continue your food journey and fill your belly to the fullest with crispy hoy tod (oyster omelets) and savory pad thai from Hoy Tod Chao Lay, and kui chai from Kui Chai Khun Mae, the famous stuffed bread from Wang Lang Bakery. Satisfy your sweet tooth with roti and tea from Mana Roti, and refreshing chewy lod chong from Lod Chong Singapore Phichit. If you’re a real foodie your tummy must be starting to growl, because all these dishes are a MUST!

Let’s move on to other insta-worthy spots hidden in Siam Discovery, shall we? The Summer Exploratorium (which is so hip it hurts) is just a few steps from the entrance. Stop when you see the digital art installation and take a cool silhouette photo by sitting in front of the giant sun on the second floor. The snaps taken at the tunnel between Siam Discovery and Siam Center are iconic on Instagram by now.

There, you have it! A full fun filled day to celebrate this Songkran with everyone in your family.
