After closing their Soi 11 location several months ago due to a land sale deal that also displaced Charley Brown’s Mexicana, Cheap Charlie’s and several other popular bars and restaurants, Snapper New Zealand has found a new location and will re-open tonight.

We’re very glad to see this re-entry onto the Bangkok food scene. The news comes in the same week that we learned that Cheap Charlie’s will re-open in a few weeks in On Nut.

The New Zealand-style seafood restaurant, beloved for their many varieties of fresh, high-quality Kiwi-style fish and chips, opens at 6pm in their new location on Sukhumvit Soi 8, down the first sub-soi on the right.

If you thought ordering fish and chips was as easy as saying “I want fish and chips,” you’d be mistaken at Snapper. The choices and combinations for how you order fish and chips at this place is a little overwhelming — but it pays off when your crispy, hot fried seafood reaches your table.

The fish choices usually include Southern Hake, Deep Sea Cod, Red Gurnard, Orange Roughy, and Snapper, all from New Zealand, of course. And the fish can arrive battered, crumbed, or pan-fried. The chip choices include standard cut, steak cut, hand cut, or kumara fries. Or you can eschew fries altogether in favor of mushy peas. The last thing you choose is your sauce: tartare, garlic aioli, tomato, salsa, or Thai Citrus.

The manager told Coconuts that the menu at Snapper’s new location will be very similar to the old location, featuring all of their old standbys but with a few new twists.
