Rice milk: Could this natural dairy alternative provide you with the essential nutrients?

Presented by DEPARTMENT OF FOREIGN TRADE

Move aside lactose-free milk, rice milk is the new milk alternative of choice among health-conscious consumers. Not only is it packed with nutrients, but it also offers nourishment for youthful skin, but how? With its rich protein content, of course.

In terms of nutritional facts, rice milk is high in protein, and is easy to digest. It contains essential amino acids that promote growth and strengthen the immune system, and has less cholesterol and fat as well as no allergens, unlike cow’s milk.

Moreover, it is lactose-free, so it is a perfect alternative for children and adults who are lactose-intolerant. Today, rice milk is widely available in the market, and there are surprisingly more types of rice milk than you’d think — each with their own sets of qualities and benefits.

Young Rice Milk

  • Made from young rice aged 2-2.5 months, rice at this stage has the most nutrients, fiber and vitamins such as calcium, vitamin B1 and B2 and vitamin E, all vital for the body’s immune system.

Germinated Brown Rice Milk

  • Brown rice is soaked in water to speed up germination. This produces gamma amino butyric acid (GABA) that promotes brain functions and improves memory, and has mood-relaxing qualities.

Rice Milk

  • Rice grains are processed with heat and mashed into a pulp. The end result is rich in carbohydrates, proving itself to be a great source of energy.
