A hidden wine bar in the old quarter, Kangkao, has moved out of its space beneath Ku Bar on Phra Sumen Road, but fans needn’t worry – it hasn’t gone far.

It’s now open every Friday and Saturday at Nangloeng Shophouse, a new project on Chakkrapatipong Road opened by owners Elaine Sun and Anupas “Kong” Premanuwat.

As before, the bar serves a rotating selection of natural wines such as a 2019 Enderle & Moll Muller-Thurgau and 2018 Domain Ratte Arbois Nature, plus bar bites. Regulars can also take advantage of loyalty cards to score deals.

The bar is holding court within a space that is a grocery store, flower shop, and cafe by day. If you can’t get a seat at night, you can still come by between 10am and 5pm every day but Tuesday to purchase homemade yogurt, jam and ricotta cheese, as well as local products including bottles of wine, flowers, and indie magazines.

Kangkao will remain at Nangloeng Shophouse for the foreseeable future, but there are plans to branch out in the city as a pop-up, or possibly find a full-time home elsewhere.

Nangloeng Shophouse is small, so reservations are a must. Contact the bar via Instagram @kang.kao or e-mail kangkao.wineclub@gmail.com for seats.
