Natural wines are trending in Bangkok, here’s where to try them

The announcement just a few weeks ago that Bangkok was going to host its’ first Natural Wine Festival and the quick subsequent announcement that the April 2 event had sold out — made it pretty clear that Bangkokians are interested in swilling more healthful wines.

If you missed out on getting tickets to the festival, you can still try a number of natural wines at About Eatery, the restaurant hosting the festival this weekend. This is a rare opportunity since many of these wines are not yet available in Thailand.

If you aren’t sure what natural wines are, they are described as wines that are, “good

for your health, vegan friendly, and free of added chemicals prior and during fermentation.”

They are also made with hand-harvested grapes, use spontaneous fermentation from yeast, are unfiltered, and low-sulfite.

Organizers of the festival have noted that due to the lack of chemical preservatives in these wines, they may look and taste very different than what drinkers are used to.

Stop by the Asoke eatery, on Sukhumvit Soi 21, today or tomorrow to try more than 20 different natural wines by the full or half-glass and and more than 50 natural wines by the bottle.

And now that we know how popular natural wines are, make you get your tickets early when they announce next year’s festival.
