Every day is a reason to celebrate with Señor Pico at Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok

Some restaurants are romantic, so you book those for wedding anniversaries. Some bars are best at hosting hen nights. And then there’re the ones you go to on weekends because you can pop your weird new dance moves there and no one would care. But places close, and party trick ideas diminish as you become older more pre-occupied.

Don’t you sometimes wish there was one place that would be perfect for just about any party? A restaurant with accommodating, friendly service staff, delicious (and non-boring) food, plus the kind of entertainment that draws even the biggest wallflowers away from their seats?

Well, here’s one: Señor Pico at Rembrandt Hotel Bangkok.

Folks love it for its genuine Mexican atmosphere — many of the service staff speak decent Spanish, there’s Mexican live music almost everyday and the menu’s rich and various.

Ceviche de Atun y huachinango

The food’s divided into a whopping 10 sections — the Entradas has the widest selection. The items that stand out most here are the ceviche — made with tuna (THB325) — and Guacamole en Molcajete , which is prepared fresh tableside and served with fresh crispy corn tortillas (THB250).

For some more money you can add chicken or steak to the casserole dish. But don’t forget to take your pick from the Nachos (THB295-350) and Original Señor Pico Recipe Chicken Wings (THB195-350). There are four options for the former: grilled chicken, Al pastor-pork, guacamole and Carne Asada (Black Angus steak), and four levels of hot sauce for the wings: from the least spicy ‘mild to hot’ to the hottest, ‘infierno.’

Grilled chicken tacos, served with onion, cilantro, salsa and grilled knob onions

Then there’s salad and soups, but we say go straight for the Enchiladas — four options in total. We’re craving these Enchiladas de Res (THB350), corn tortillas filled with shredded tender beef, baked in a Guajillo sauce and cheese topped with sour cream and cilantro, or Enfrijoladas de Cerdo (THB295), tortillas filled with braised pork, smothered with beans and queso fresco, chorizo.

If you prefer other kinds of wraps, there are also a bunch of variations, from chorizo to marinated prawns, for Tacos (THB295-325) and Burritos (THB295-395). Personally we like to jazz up our giant corn tortillas with fresh guacamole like Burrito California (THB395-450), served with fried potatoes, guacamole and sour cream.

Atun del Diablo, juicy tuna served with avocado and mango chutney
Still hungry, or coming with a big party? Señor Pico doesn’t scrimp on Fajitas and Espetadas either, but be sure to treat everyone to a bunch of their house specials (or “Especialidades de la Casa”, if you’re so inclined), which include Costillas de Puerco, half and full slabs of barbecued pork ribs (THB350-495), Carne De Res Con Salsa Verde, slow cooked Angus beef short ribs with Mole Verde and roasted potatoes (THB650), Pescado A La Veracruzana, stewed salmon with green olives, capsicum and tomato sauce (THB595), and Atun del Diablo, seared tuna with Mexican spices (THB595).

Pretty insane, right? We’re not done.

Probably one of the main reasons Señor Pico’s one of Bangkok’s main celebration spots is because there’s something happening every night. The Mexican live band’s off on Mondays, but on this day from 5 – 11pm, every two signature dishes you order gets you a free pitcher of frozen margarita. (What? Exactly.)

The band’s back for Tijuana Tuesdays, when Señor Pico serves free flow margaritas for THB499, all-you-can-eat tacos for THB499, or THB 799 for both promos.

Say you want to congratulate your colleague on their promotion and it’s a Wednesday. Come to Señor Pico so you can both get free flow wines or their house signature sangria for THB599 each from 5pm – 11pm. (You should probably call in sick on Thursday in advance.)

Enjoy live Mexican music from Tuesday to Sunday

Men, Thursday’s your night to shine. Ask the woman you like on a date and get 25 percent off signature margaritas, sangrias and mojitos. The promo lasts till late, too, from 5pm – 11pm.

And then there’s Friday, the day you get to dance to the band’s fantastic, authentic music from 8pm – 11pm. There’ll be special offers on mojitos, margaritas and beer, too.

If you can get yourself out of bed the next day, you should, because Señor Pico truly delivers, with kitchen theatrics, a Bloody Mary bar (best way to cure a hangover, right?), food stations and even a piñata for the kids. That’s noon till 3pm and costs THB 599++ per person. Kids aged six – 12 pay half.
