Meet the Corn Dog Dude

COCONUTS HOT SPOTS — Every now and then I come across an exotic snack on a Bangkok street and think, “Hmm, why isn’t this popular back home in America?” Take, for instance, muu ping or kaew neaw mamuang; I’m sure they would be a hit with people looking for a little something to nibble on, especially hipsters and west coasters, or both.

Well, I guess someone was walking along a street in some Californian city and thought “Hey, I’m sure Bangkokians would love corn dogs. Why don’t they offer them in the Big Mango? “

Enter Corn Dog Dude, a K-Village eatery serving up authentic Corn Dogs and California-inspired American fare that’s typically served at state fairs and boardwalks. You won’t find many places like this outside of the US.

Corn Dog Dude “gets” what American comfort food is all about: they serve their snacks on wax paper, American-style ketchup is clearly labeled (it’s lesser Thai counterpart is still available) and they use proper deep frying oil in their corn dog construction.

You’ll find a bottle of French’s Yellow Mustard to lather up your dog as well—that’s how you know this is the real deal.

Order your dog and watch them dip a sizeable hot dog on a stick into corn bread batter (you can choose regular or spicy), then fry it up in front you. The corn dogs pair well with Dog Dude’s lemonade, which tastes more like limeade, and an order of fries.

This is the ideal place to get a quick bite for homesick Americans and adventurous gastro-tourists alike. We just wish they had some cheap, watery, American draft beer on tap to wash those ‘dogs down.
