Cool swag: Print shop Inkman does custom food printing with your photo on lattes, pancakes, and more for under $100

If you want to offer some unusual swag at your next event, post your brand logo on an edible, or are just obsessed with your own image, then Bangkok’s Inkman offers pretty cool, unconventional food printing options that might appeal.

We first caught wind of Inkman and its wares at this year’s Thaifex innovation expo, where the company had two booths set up at opposite ends of the event — and where large crowds were gathering to ooh and aah at the live demos.

Alex Jaruchotiratanasakul, who runs the company, told Coconuts that his food-printing setup uses entirely non-toxic, safe for consumption inks. Starting at THB2,500, his clients can get the picture of their choosing placed on edible items including pancakes, lattes, macarons, and bread slices.

The first obvious uses we thought of for this were business logos for corporate events and photos for private events like weddings and baby showers. But it would also be hilarious to present a friend on her birthday with a bunch of macarons featuring her face on each one.

We watched a demo of the printer at work — Alex put our photos, as well as the Coconuts logo, on a latte, and then a pancake — which took just a few seconds each to print out.

There is something that is both weird and satisfying about eating at item featuring your own image. We imagine it would be pleasing to egomaniacs. And, of course, lend new meaning to the phrase “Eat me.”

Alex told us that his business has worked with lots of big coffee companies doing printed lattes at events. They’ve collaborated with Nescafe, Cafe Amazon, Doi Chang Coffee, S&P, Blue Cup Coffee and more. The cost to do a single latte is just THB0.5 each for the printing, the cost of the latte itself varies depending on what’s being served.

He also said that though they’ve been practicing with their technology for two years, they just started advertising it more heavily since they feel they finally have the process and coloring perfected.

Today, you can send them any photo or logo to print on food items, and according to Alex, Inkman can handle it.

We asked Alex if any offbeat requests have come in yet — surely they’ve gotten requests to get a weird photo, logo, or phrase to be printed on an edible by now, right?

However, the print requests thus far have been pretty tame, though Alex is open to wackier prints: “Nothing weird yet, but I’d like to see that.”
