Feeling stir crazy after being stuck at home for weeks? How about splurging on some new wines?

A luxury hotel might not be the typical landing spot for a wine store, but importer-distributor The Wine Merchant is defying such expectations at the Mandarin Oriental.

The store, adjacent to the Authors’ Lounge tea room, offers bottles from more than 100 different wineries, plus a selection of boutique spirits such as Hayman’s gin (THB1,200 for 700ml) and Jean-Luc Pasquet L’Organic 04 cognac (THB1,690 for 700ml). The prices are competitive, with a wide range of wines available for less than THB1,000, from reds and whites to port and Champagne.

Cofounders Aman Sachdev and Nan Pittara – two of the people behind La Casa Nostra in Sathorn – said the prices are the same as those found on Virtual Wine Cellar, their new iOS-only app.

At the shop, a concierge is on hand to help pick the right bottles. The space can also be booked for private “sommelier table” tasting sessions for groups of up to eight.

The Wine Merchant shop is located inside the Mandarin Oriental hotel on Soi Charoen Krung 40 and reachable from BTS Saphan Taksin. It’s open 11am to 11pm every day.
