New releases: Bangkok gets indie short films and DJ Zac Efron

NATCHA ON FILM – This weekend will be all about short films as the Shnit International Short Film Festival will be hosted at Lido Apex. Zac Efron stars as an overly confident aspiring DJ in “We are your friends.” Lastly, “Pan” tells the origin story of how Peter Pan came about and provides an interesting twist to the classic film. Also, a new Pokemon is coming out while “Sinister 2” reuses the same idea as the first one.

We are your friends

Zac Efron as an aspiring DJ is probably the douchiest role he has ever taken on in his career.

Zac and his group of “bros” spend endless nights trying to come up with the perfect track in an attempt to get rich quick. One day he meets an older, once-popular DJ who takes him under his wing but things get complicated when Zac falls for his girlfriend.

This film has been criticized by famous DJs because they claim it isn’t a true reflection of the industry, but what do you expect from Hollywood.

Pan

Next on the list of turning every Disney animation into a live-action film is Pan, a film with a different approach to the original Peter Pan.

The movie strays from the original story of Peter Pan and tries to create an origin story. It begins with Peter somehow ending up in Neverland and focuses on how he became the hero who will forever be known as Peter Pan.

Pokemon X & Y The Movie

I have not paid any attention to Pokemon movies since the first one was released in 1998. Now, Pokemon has so many generations it’s impossible to keep up, unless you’re a die-hard fan.

“Pokemon X & Y The Movie” features a Pokemon named Hoopa who has the ability to summon legendary Pokemon from other generations. After some scary incident, Ash and Pikachu learn that a person once stopped a terrifying Pokemon long ago. So they team up with Hoopa to try to stop this guy.

This film seems like it’s more for a niche group of people rather than the masses.

Sinister 2

I remember the first Sinister being pretty bad so I’m not sure why they would even want to make a sequel. But with most scary movies, the plots are not connected.

“Sinister 2” is pretty much like the first one: a family finds a box of haunted home movies and gets more than they asked for. However, a character from the first movie learns about the new family’s fate and tries to stop them before they fall prey to the demon, Bughuul
