11-year-old boy faces manslaughter charge over drowning of two female classmates

The 11-year-old boy who allegedly drowned two young girls in a Bangkok canal on Thursday is facing a charge of manslaughter.

Three witnesses told police they saw the boy kicking his two classmates, aged 11 and 12, into Khlong Prawet Burirom on Thursday afternoon, according to Pol. Col. Nipon Chareonsil, commander of Phra Khanong police department.

Pol. Col. Nipon said the witnesses also claimed the boy stomped on the girls’ hands as they tried to cling onto the pier, causing them to drown.

Police said the minor suspect, whose identity was withheld, denied all accusations and claimed that the two girls jumped into the canal themselves.

The case will be forwarded to the Central Juvenile and Family Court as police gather more evidence and witnesses for prosecutors, Thairath reported.
