A 23-year-old woman was killed on site after a truck ran over her in Denpasar yesterday morning, with police launching an investigation into the tragic accident.
The fatal accident occurred on Jl. Ahmad Yani Utara, when the truck in question reportedly made a sudden right turn and scraped the vehicle of the victim, identified as NWW, tipping her off of her motorbike. The truck then ran over NWW with its rear wheels, killing her instantly.
“The victim suffered heavy injuries on her head and died at the location,” Denpasar Police Spokesman Ketut Sukadi said.
Sukadi said the truck driver, a 65-year-old identified by his initials KG, immediately underwent questioning.
Rumors have been circulating today that the incident occurred after NWW turned her vehicle around to avoid a mask raid in the area, fueling a concerning discourse about the mask mandate in Bali. Sukadi did not respond directly to the rumors when asked by local media outlets, but suggested that people should be wiser in using social media.
“The general public ought to be wiser in using social media so that the news don’t go out of hand,” Sukadi said today.
