Watch: Bule’s response video to Nov. 4 Indonesia protest goes viral as he preaches ‘unity in diversity’

In the wake of the Nov. 4 protest in Jakarta that turned violent, a German guy has posted a video urging Indonesians to remember their political creed of “unity in diversity.”

The message is important as ever now, after the demo, where more than 100,000 people took the streets of Jakarta, in outrage over Governor Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama’s alleged blasphemous statement against Islam. One police officer died, while 79 were injured during the protest.

The allegations against Ahok have been divisive as ever, so Indonesians should keep up with their right to protest and show their differences. But ultimately, they should respect each others’ opinions, German man “Marv Jo”, who appears to be in Bali, communicated in his video.

“It’s normal to have different opinions,” but “we’re all a big family,” the German says.

“Respect others and spread love, not hate.

“Unity in diversity,” he concludes, holding up a sign with the words written in bahasa (bhinneka tunggal ika) at the end.

Since it was posted to Facebook on Nov. 5, the video has been shared over 27k times and has gotten a showing of positive feedback in the comments section.
