Around 12,000 baby chicks were killed in a farm fire in the Pupuan sub-district of Bali’s Tabanan regency yesterday, causing an estimated loss of IDR 1.2 billion (USD 89,246).

As reported by Bali Post, authorities suspect the fire was caused by a short circuit inside the henhouse.

“We suspect there was a short circuit inside the henhouse, which caused a spark that eventually swelled,” police chief inspector Ida Bagus Mahendra, who heads Pupuan Police, said.

In addition, Bagus said there were many gas tanks inside the henhouse as well.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 4am yesterday and ravaged the entire henhouse and its 12,000 baby chicks, which had only been 7-days old.
