Thousands of domestic travelers are visiting Bali as restrictions ease and COVID-19 cases decline in the province, with the island’s beaches being the most frequented by tourists, an official said.
“If we’re looking from the airport arrivals, right now it’s at 4,300 travelers per day, [on average]” Bali Tourism Agency Chief Putu Astawa said.
Astawa said that the numbers stood around 700 to 800 back in June and July, when Bali and the rest of Indonesia were hit with a devastating wave of the coronavirus driven by the Delta variant. It was also during this time that the island saw its highest daily new infections and death tolls.
The COVID-19 situation in Bali has significantly improved since then, with the province having been downgraded to Level 3 of the four-tiered Enforcement of Restrictions on Public Activities (PPKM) policy.
The beaches in Kuta, Legian, and Pandawa are among places most frequented around this time, Astawa added. Crowds have been sighted in those areas recently, and officials have announced the enforcement of an odd-even traffic rule in order to prevent mass gatherings.
