Two Swedes had a near-death experience in Canggu early on Wednesday morning, according to local reports.

Allegedly because they were driving while intoxicated, the Swedes, crashed off the end of Jl. Batu Bolong. The two had reportedly been driving separate scooters, a Honda Spacy and a Honda Scoopy.

Likely because they weren’t familiar with the roads, they drove off straight to the beach, police told reporters.

A security guard at Old Man’s said he had heard the sound of speeding motorbikes go past the restaurant at the time of the accident, then suddenly stop.

When he went to check, he says he saw that the motorbikes had plunged onto the beach and saw two people lying, injured.

“One was already unconscious and bleeding from the nose and ears. The other was still conscious,” Nusa Bali quoted the security guard as saying.

Badung Police’s Traffic Unit Insp. Putu Raka confirmed the accident and said the injured men were sent to the hospital.

“Both motorbikes they drove have been confiscated and taken to the police station. The accident occurred because the two them did not pay attention to the road. They did not know the road would end, so both fell into the sand,” Nusa Bali quoted Raka as saying.
