There’s something about drugs and music festivals; the two just go together. Even in Indonesia, where drug penalties are harsh, people still take the risk of getting caught for the chance of that sought-out festival high.
Three concert-goers trying to attend the Soundrenaline music festival didn’t get to enjoy the music on Sunday after they were stopped by security, found to be carrying some illegal drugs.
Two came together and were reportedly from Medan, Sumatra. Identified by initials, ED and HD, the pair was caught trying to sneak ecstasy and marijuana into the two-day music festival, held at Jimbaran’s GWK park.
Police found ecstasy, along with two joints in the men’s bags at the concert’s security check.
ED claimed to have gotten the drugs from someone he did not know.
“Three red and green ecstasy pills were brought by ED, while the marijuana joints were brought by his friend, called HD,” Bali Police spokesman said on Monday.
The pair was directly arrested and brought to South Kuta Police for further examination.
Meanwhile, another man was arrested separately at Soundrenaline, trying to smuggle in a joint of his own. The man, reportedly from Jakarta, tried to run away from officers at the security check, but failed to get away.
“There was one visitor who tried to escape examination. Officers were swift and immediately chased him,” Widjaja said.
After being searched, the man, DH, was found to have concealed a joint in a cigarette pack.
Reports did not get into whether the three men have already been charged, but possession of a class I narcotics is punishable by four to twelve year’s imprisonment. Penalties for dealing are even more severe.
