A Russian woman was killed after she was swept away by a huge wave at Pasut Beach yesterday, while her four friends survived.

According to police in the Kerambitan sub-district, the victim, identified as 23-year-old Abennha Anekcahapobha Avelina, visited the famous black sand beach at around 1pm with four of her friends, all of whom are also from Russia.

The five Russians took photos at the beach before they went for a swim in the ocean.

“When the victim was swimming with her friends, they were dragged away from the shore by a huge wave, but the victim’s four friends managed to save themselves,” Kerambitan Police Chief Dewa Gede Putra said, as quoted by Radar Bali.

One of her friends tried to save Avelina and eventually managed to pull her to shore, but she was already unconscious by that time.

“When she reached the shore, it was suspected that she had already died,” Dewa said.

Dewa added that Avelina’s friends did not suffer from any major injuries but are in deep shock at the loss of their friend.
