What was supposed to be a peaceful Saturday night in Ubud was ruined by a foreigner who walked around naked and harassed people, including by exposing his genitalia and spitting on them.
The man was identified by his initials AT and, according to local reports, hailed from Russia. He was arrested by Ubud Police yesterday after the authorities were tipped by locals who were concerned with his erratic behavior.
“Immediately after we received the reports, we deployed our forces and apprehended [AT],” Ubud Police Chief Gusti Ngurah Yudistira said.
According to eyewitnesses, AT walked back and forth in front of a homestay on Jalan Raya Mas without any clothes on and flashed his penis to other people. He also reportedly spat on people who walked past him.
In addition, AT reportedly tried to seduce a college student who was in Gianyar for field study. As a result, AT may face charges of sexual harassment.
While locals believe that AT’s behavior was a result of excessive drinking, police immediately rushed him to the Bangli Mental Health Institution for further inspection. The police also got in touch with immigration authorities and the Russian consulate.
Indonesia’s Law on Pornography states that anyone who commits acts of public indecency – like AT did, which authorities often label “pornoaction” – may face up to 10 years’ imprisonment.
