An elderly retired doctor died on Mengiat Beach in Nusa Dua yesterday, with authorities suspecting that the victim had drowned.

Ketut Sukadi, a spokesman from the Denpasar Police, said on Monday that the deceased was immediately evacuated to the regional hospital in Denpasar after he was found.

The victim, identified as 65-year-old IM, reportedly went to Mengiat Beach with his wife and friends on Monday morning to go snorkeling. The friend returned to the beach about 15 minutes after going into the water, and started looking for IM when he noticed that he wasn’t around. By the time he saw IM, the victim was floating in the water face down.

“The victim was given first aid, and was then evacuated to the hospital,” Sukadi said.
