A tourist from Saudi Arabia was killed in a rafting accident over the weekend, police said — the latest in a string of deadly incidents related to the water sport in Bali.

According to the police, the victim, identified as a woman with the initials BKA, went white water rafting with her husband and their child in Rendang district, Karangasem on Saturday.

The family occupied a raft with two local guides. The raft capsized when it was hit by a sudden strong current.

BKA was killed almost instantaneously when her head collided with a rock on the river bed.

“The victim died from drowning due to the severe head injury,” Rendang Police Chief Made Punia said on Sunday.

Last month, an American man was declared missing after his raft capsized in Ubud. Officials stopped search and rescue efforts after one week, with the tourist presumed dead.

Around this time last year, two tourists who were river rafting in Ubud were killed after a downpour triggered a landslide in the area.
