Be more alert and aware when in Kuta and South Kuta, caution police.

Police from the two South Bali precincts say they have received reports of 26 cases of theft from January to June 2017, eight of which were about stolen motorbikes.

Moreover, police have received 17 cases of abuse, 13 cases of theft using violence, and 10 cases of beatings.

One of the most “vulnerable” locations in the South Kuta area is the intersection of the Polytechnic campus towards Kuta because the area gets so quiet and dark at night, according to police.

“We have communicated with the mayor to seek street lighting and install CCTV. Because now CCTV has become an indispensable tool for police to identify and catch the perpetrators of a crime,” South Kuta Police Chief Wayan Latra said.

Police are likewise encouraging business owners to install security cameras to help deter crime.

“We appeal, especially to owners of entertainment businesses, to install CCTV to facilitate monitoring, in case of crime,” Kuta Police Chief Wayan Sumara told Tribun Bali on Tuesday.

While Bali is not for being a particularly violent, dangerous place, street crime seems to have been increasing in recent times. Earlier this month, Bali Police formed a special squad dedicated to fighting street crime, like muggings and motorcycle gangs, after a military cadet was ambushed and stabbed to death in the Jimbaran area.
