Police in Tabanan regency arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of sexually abusing an underage girl, now 16, for three years.

According to the police, the victim, who is identified by her initials CDL, moved to Bali in 2014 to continue her schooling. While details are scant on whether or not she still has parents, she lived in an orphanage in Banjar Anyar village in the Kediri sub-district.

In 2016, the suspect, who is identified by his initials RS, began grooming CDL. He then raped her at times when she was alone at the orphanage.

CDL moved out of the orphanage sometime later, but RS still sexually abused her. CDL got pregnant in April 2018, but, as was her wish and with RS’ insistence, she had an abortion a couple of months later.

CDL moved several times since then but she wasn’t able to escape RS’ clutches. In December 2019, she moved back to the orphanage, where RS raped her repeatedly.

On Jan. 30, CDL ran away from the orphanage and stayed at a couple of friends’ house before she was encouraged to finally report RS to the police on Feb. 6. RS was arrested not long after for sexual abuse on a minor.

Under Indonesia’s child protection law, RS could face up to 15 years in prison.
