Police in Bali have arrested two men in connection to a viral video showing a group of men assaulting another man on the side of a street in Denpasar earlier this week.
The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Gusti Made Wartawan and 18-year-old I Putu Budiawan, were arrested on Wednesday, according to a statement issued by the Bali Police.
Andi Fairan, who heads Bali Police’s Crime Unit, told reporters earlier today that the suspects were offended by the victim, identified as Andre, without further disclosing the reason why.
“The suspects were offended by the victim, and hit the victim together. When the victim and his girlfriend were driving on their motorcycle … they edged closer and then Putu Budiawan hit him,” Andi said earlier today, as quoted by Detik.
A video of the incident showed the moment Budiawan and Wartawan edged closer to Andre, all of them on their motorbikes. A woman can be heard screaming, followed by the sound of a motorbike falling later in the video, though the scene of the assault itself was not specifically recorded.

According to the police, Andre suffered bruises from the incident, whereas his girlfriend had not been hurt.
“The victim was bruised in his face, and the suspect had pulled on his hair and spinned his head around, and the victim hit the exhaust of the suspects’ motorbike,” Andi said.
Andre then filed a report about the incident, leading to Wartawan and Budiawan’s arrest. The suspects are charged with violation of Article 170 of Indonesia’s criminal code (KUHP) on public assault, which carries a maximum sentence of five years and six months in prison.
