Photos of a man in Bali posing with a dead monkey and its baby has netizens in an uproar.

In one of the photos, the man is holding up a large macaque by the neck like a trophy in one hand and in the other, he’s got a baby monkey and his gun.

Putu Ariawan posted the photos to Facebook this week, writing in the caption that this was the result of his ‘harvest hunt’ for Galungan, the Balinese feast holiday that fell on April 5.

Ariawan appears to have removed the pictures from his profile or at least doesn’t have them set to public, but the damage has been done–they have already made their away across the Bali net with screenshots of the photos and comments going viral and even a write-up in the local newspaper.

Ariawan’s pictures were reposted to gossip-centric Indonesian account @lambe_turah and have gotten over 24,000 likes and upwards of 10,000 comments since republished with the caption in all caps, “THERE’S REALLY NO OTHER FOOD?”.

“Cruel, you are like a human monkey,” writes one commenter.

“Don’t be proud of killing animals, one day karma will come for you,” writes another.

Other comments were just as scathing:

“Hopefully this monkey will be reincarnated to something better. Those who kill will definitely get karma. Only, he’s not aware.”

“Give him the death penalty.”

“Eating primates is like eating humans.”

“Humans are more sinister than the devil.”

“Wait til God responds.”

In one of the screenshotted captions of what appears to be the original post, a commenter asks Ariawan why the baby monkey also had to die, the “poor thing.”  To which Ariawan responds that he meant to shoot the big monkey but the baby was in the way.

And when asked what he shot the monkey for, Ariawan answered that the meat was for satay.
