Authorities in Bali’s Buleleng regency are taking their boats out to administer the COVID-19 vaccine to fishermen out at sea, as efforts continue to make sure everyone gets their jab.

In a statement, Buleleng Police Chief Andrian Pramudianto said that many fishermen haven’t been vaccinated because they aren’t able to join the vaccination program held on land due to the demands of their profession.

A medical team from the Buleleng Police set out to the sea yesterday to reach some of these fishermen, and 11 of them have so far gotten their first COVID jab.

“Keeping in mind the expansive waters off Buleleng regency and the fact that these fishermen haven’t been vaccinated, we approached them instead by facilitating this vaccination service,” Andrian said.

“This program will continue and next week we will target the fishermen in the western side.”

As of Aug. 18, over 3.1 million people in Bali have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while nearly 1.5 million are now fully vaccinated.
