New Zealander convicted in Bali for drug trafficking caught in prison with drugs: reports

A Kiwi who is serving a 15-year sentence in Bali’s Kerobokan Prison for drug trafficking was caught in his cell with drugs.

Three packages of marijuana were found in New Zealand man Antony de Malmanche’s cell and his urine tests came back positive for drugs, reports Newshub

A raid in Bali’s most notorious prison last night yielded the interesting finding.

Why is it so interesting? The 54-year-old was stopped at Bali’s airport in December 2014 with 1.7 kilograms of meth in his backpack.

The kiwi consistently maintained his innocence throughout his trial, insisting that he was set up and scammed by a woman he had fallen in love with via online dating.

A reoccurring theme in the New Zealander’s defense was his history of mental health issues

Prosecutors did not pursue the death penalty for de Malmanche and instead recommended 18 years, but judges ultimately sentenced him to 15 years.
