A man arrested for stealing money out of a Bali hotel guest’s safety deposit box made sure to set the record straight.

I Made Sartika, 45, says he stole Rp 3 million and not Rp 15 million from guests Hotel Dinasty Boutique Seminyak.

Sartika was arrested June 20, when an Austrian guest reported missing money, according to Tribun Bali

“I’m sorry and I admit that I stole the money. But I did not steal Rp 15 million. I only stole Rp 3 million. It (the money) was not used at all,” Sartika said, as quoted by Tribun Bali, adding that he wanted to use the money for his son.

According to Kuta Police Chief Dedy Januarta, the complainant claimed to have lost Rp 15 million.

Austrian citizen Fanian Schomitz wrote in a report that he had three envelopes containing Rp 21.5 million, 25 million, and EUR450, according to Tribun.

However, when Schomitz later checked the money, the Austrain says as much as Rp 15 million was missing.
