An 18-year-old man in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is facing a maximum of 15 years in prison for the alleged sexual assault of a baby that he was helping care for.

The suspect, identified as NDM, is a college student living in the same house with the victim and her parents. The incident reportedly took place back in February, when NDM was babysitting the victim while her mother cooked in the kitchen.

According to reports, NDM was watching porn on his phone with the baby on his lap before he took her to the bedroom. There, he reportedly laid the baby down on the bed and pulled off his pants. He then proceeded to pull the baby’s legs up and started rubbing his penis between her thighs, at which point the victim’s mother entered the room and witnessed the crime.

The baby was 15 months old at the time.

NDM was taken to the police station after the victim’s mother sought help from neighbors. He reportedly apologized to the mother and said that the act was done “beyond his consciousness.”

Last Friday, authorities reconstructed the crime scene and proceeded to name NDM a suspect in the case. He is charged with violating Indonesia’s Child Protection Law, and faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison.
