Jetstar Bali flights canceled because of volcanic ash cloud

UPDATE: Jetstar Bali flights back on after complications with volcanic ash cloud

A volcano in Java spewing ash has prompted Jetstar to cancel some of their flights to and from Bali.

Two flights bound for Denpasar, one from Sydney, and one from Melbourne, had to turn back mid-flight after Mt. Raung on Java released some ash clouds, reports Australia’s 9 News

In fact, Jetstar says an ash cloud is making its way towards Ngurah Rai Airport, which is why it’s too dangerous to fly, reports the Sydney Morning Herald

“We regret the disruption this weather event has caused our passengers and thank them for their patience as we work to provide alternative options,” Jetstar said in a statement, as quoted by 9 News.

“All passengers on rescheduled or cancelled flights will be notified by Jetstar or their travel agent directly and provided with options to fly on alternative services.”

The airline also tweeted a travel alert for Bali:

Nine flights from the airline have reportedly been cancelled so far, and here are the flights cancelled for Friday, as published by the SMH:

  1. JQ90-91 – Cairns-Denpasar (2 July) / Denpasar-Cairns (3 July)
  2. JQ83 – Darwin-Denpasar (3 July)
  3. JQ107 – Denpasar-Perth (3 July)
  4. JQ117 – Singapore-Denpasar (3 July) / Denpasar-Perth (3 July)
