All eyes were closely watching a Chinese Interpol fugitive who was escorted to his flight out of Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport, after he had attempted suicide while in Indonesian custody.

Police wanted to make sure the fugitive didn’t try anything else during his last moments in Indonesia.

Bali Police spokesman Hengky Widjaja confirmed the handover of 34-year-old Chen Liang to Chinese police for deportation back to his homeland on Sunday.

Liang had been involved in a fraud and embezzlement case and was secured by Immigration at Bali’s airport on April 19.

Immigration sent him to Bali Police. While in police custody, Liang attempted suicide, allegedly because of the stress of the situation, but failed. He did however, cut his hand, so he was taken to BIMC in Nusa Dua for treatment.

“The suicide attempt was done by using a plastic chair in his detention chamber,” Widjaja said, as quoted by Tribun Bali.
