Indonesia is on course to exchange American fugitive Marcus Beam with two Indonesian fugitives currently detained in the United States, according to a spokesman from the National Police.

Awi Setiyono, who heads the National Police’s public information bureau, said the US Marshals Service has agreed to help repatriate two Indonesian fugitives, identified as Indra Budiman, or IB, and Sai Ngo Ng, or SNN, in exchange for Beam, who was arrested in Bali last month.

Police say Beam has been hiding out on the island since January, while producing and selling porn to make money. The 50-year-old fugitive reportedly entered Indonesia with a fake passport under the name Corner De Mario.

Beam is wanted for alleged investment fraud in the US. According to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, he is accused of embezzling around US$500,000 from investors in Chicago, using the money for his personal and business expenses instead of placing them in investment funds.

Meanwhile, Awi explained that both IB and SNN had been on Interpol’s red notice list since 2018. The former is wanted for fraud and money laundering, cases of which are related to the sales of Swiss-Belhotel in Bali between September 2012 and August 2014, whereas SNN is wanted for a corruption case related to East Java administration-owned lender Bank Jatim that took place between 2011 and 2012.

The US Marshals reportedly arrested IB in California, while SNN was arrested in Texas. Both IB and SNN are currently detained over immigration issues, with Awi saying that the two had overstayed their visas.
