According to reports, the fire started at around 5:30pm yesterday. The Regional Disaster Management (BPBD) in Gianyar initially deployed 20 fire trucks to the scene, but as the fire raged on they were backed up by teams from other BPBD units in Bali, including from Badung and Denpasar.
The fire reportedly raged on until at least 9pm, and authorities have since estimated billions of rupiah in losses from the incident.
“This market is very important for the people of Blahbatuh,” Blahbatuh District Chief Ida Bagus Dharma Yudha said.
“We are now discussing where to locate the sellers of Blahbatuh after this fire incident.”
