A 60-year-old German man was apprehended by local authorities after he was reportedly screaming and causing a scene at a hotel in Sanur, Denpasar.

Officials are venturing the possibility that the man may be suffering from depression.

“We evacuated a German man who caused a scene at a Sanur hotel, we suspect he may be depressed,” Dewa Gede Anom Sayoga, chief of the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) in Denpasar, said.

Authorities said the foreigner, identified as ECA, tossed his belongings around in his hotel room, which prompted locals to report him to authorities. Satpol PP officers soon arrived to take him away for questioning.

Authorities didn’t manage to question ECA comprehensively, as he needed hospital care shortly after he was taken away.

“His health deteriorated, [he was] conscious but weak, so we had to carry him and take him to Sanglah General Hospital,” Sayoga said, without specifying what could have stricken the foreigner.

Satpol PP is reportedly questioning ECA’s guide, who has been accompanying him while in Bali, to obtain further information while the foreigner is being treated at Sanglah.
