Dead body found in Denpasar ditch, police suspect woman was murdered

UPDATE Police arrest suspect in Denpasar murder case, allegedly killed woman for phone

A body was found dumped in a rice sack in Sidakarya, south Denpasar on Saturday

Police suspect that the dead woman, who has not yet been identified, was murdered.

“We found a wound on the back of her head, like from a sharp object,” Denpasar Police Commissioner Hadi Purnomo said, as quoted by Tribun Bali

Local residents say that they first thought the sack contained the carcass of an animal, like a dog or pig.

The first person who reportedly came across the body was resident Made Kara, 57.

“At first, Pak Made thought it was an animal. But I said that it doesn’t look like a pig or a dog,” Tribun Bali quoted Nur, a witness, as saying.

“I thought it was a human, because of the rancid order, it was a pungent smell.

“The body is female. Her hair is curly. The problem is that at first I wasn’t sure if it was an animal or a person. But when I saw the hair sticking out, I became alarmed and reported it to the police,” Nur said.

Once the sack was opened, police reportedly found that the woman was half-naked, just wearing a black shirt.

The woman is overweight and is believed to have been around 40 years old, according to reports.

The body has been evacuated to the forensics lab at Sanglah Hospital. Police say they have launched an investigation.
