Couple commits double suicide at Bali’s Lake Batur ahead of Valentine’s Day

Just a few days before Valentine’s Day, a pair of lovers apparently took their own lives in a double suicide at Lake Batur in Kintamani, Bali.

The unmarried couple was allegedly desperate to end their lives because their families disapproved of their affair.

The bodies of NA, 38, and KP, 18, were found on Monday night at the lake, according to Tribun Bali.

NA had sent a text to his sister-in-law, saying that his car needed to be picked up later from the pier at Kedisan, at Lake Batur.

At Kedisan, NA’s car was found, unlocked, with two phones inside, and a note explaining the suicide.

Police were called to the scene. After setting up a crime scene around the car and interviewing witnesses, further search efforts around the lake were taken.

At about 8:30 pm that evening, the victims were found dead, having drowned, bound together by a scarf.

The families of the couple did not approve of their relationship because NA had been married to another woman for 14 years—though apparently with no kids and his relationship was not in a good place. But, still.

The family has reportedly refused to conduct an autopsy because they say they don’t doubt at all that it was suicide.
