A Chinese tourist was arrested in Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport on Friday with methamphetamine in his bag.

The tourist, identified in reports by initials, WT, 33, was stopped when going through the x-ray at the airport.

He’s currently being held in custody of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Bali.

“The BNN Bali and the Airport Customs interdiction team made the arrest, securing the alleged perpetrator in the international terminal,” BNN Chief Brig. Putu Gede Suastawa said on Sunday, as quoted by Tribun Bali.

WT was arrested on Friday around midnight we he got off a Citilink flight from Ningbo, China to Denpasar, says Suastawa.

“After entering the examination room, the victim’s belongings were analyzed using an x-ray machine.

“Officers thought there was a suspicious object in the subject’s backpack. And indeed, it was meth,” Suastawa said.

The meth measured 0.4 grams, BNN official Adj. Sr. Comr. I Ketut Arta told reporters.

WT, who apparently works as a tour leader, claimed the drugs were purchased from someone in China.

“He admitted that the drugs, type methamphetamine, were meant to be consumed by he alone during a vacation in Bali,”  Suastawa said.

BNN did not yet say what WT will be charged with—the agency will continue its investigation into WT before any legal proceedings commence.
