A German woman was whisked away by Bali authorities from an abandoned house in North Kuta, where she squatted for 10 days.

The 52-year-old frau, identified by her initials DJ, stayed in a dilapidated house in Petitenget for more than a week before locals reported her to the Badung Satpol PP (Public Order Agency).

“We found her inside an empty house in a condition that is quite concerning,” Badung Satpol PP Chief I Gusti Agung Ketut Suryanegara said yesterday, adding that DJ looked gaunt and seemingly did not take care of herself.

Officials say DJ was evasive when questioned about her condition. Suryanegara suspected that she had run out of money and took refuge in the abandoned house as she could no longer afford staying at a hotel.

“We handed over [the case] to the immigration for the next steps,” he said, hinting towards her deportation from Indonesia.
