Canadian tourist drowns at Double-Six Beach

A Canadian tourist was found dead at Double-Six Beach on Saturday morning after getting dragged out to sea the day before.

Andre Deziel, 65, had gone out to swim with his girlfriend in Legian on Friday evening when strong currents reportedly pulled him further out, at about 6:20 pm.

“The chronology of events was that around 5 pm, the victim and his girlfriend arrived at Legian Beach in front of Bali Niksoma by bicycle. Then the vicim and his girlfriend were bathing on the edge of the beach. Around 6:20 pm, the victim was seen waving (for help) as he was swept away,” Kuta Police Chief I Wayan Sumara told Tribun Bali

The Canadian’s body was found early the next morning by local man Wayan Artana, 37, who called the police when he came across a corpse at the beach.

From 2010, 47 people have reportedly died from drowning in the south coast district of Badung.
