Residents of East Denpasar this morning found the body of an unidentified man at Padang Galak Beach, with the tattoos on his arm hopefully enough to provide authorities a clue to his identity.

The body was discovered at around 6.45am.

“When he was found, the victim was facing down on the shoreline, only wearing navy blue shorts,” Denpasar Police spokesperson Andi Muh Nurul Yaqin told reporters, as quoted by Detik.

“There’s a bruise on his head and blood coming out from his lips. At first glance, his characteristics resemble an Indonesian national or a local resident.”

Based on the police’s initial assessment, the victim is believed to have died after he got washed away by the sea currents. The wounds were likely caused by friction with sand or corals on the beach.

His body has been brought to the Sanglah General Hospital in Denpasar for identification.

Yesterday, a Russian woman died after she was swept by a huge wave while swimming at Pasut Beach in Tabanan. Her four friends survived.
